Are you passionate about conservation and the environment? Want to gain hands-on experience improving fish and wildlife habitat? The Cornwall & Area Watershed Group (CAWG) is hiring the following positions to assist with habitat restoration, species monitoring, and community engagement:
Location: Cornwall, PEI, Canada
Anticipated Start Date: May 4th or May 11th, 2026
Duration: 16-week and 14-week positions (37.5 hours/week)
Wage: $19/hour
· Restore salmonid spawning habitat using natural materials;
· Plant and maintain native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers;
· Identify plant and animal species;
· Assist with trail creation and forest management;
· Manage and enhance naturalized areas in Cornwall;
· Engage with the community at environmental events;
· Participate in scientific monitoring, including:
· Must be returning to school in the fall;
· Team player with strong communication skills;
· Ability to work independently and take initiative;
· Comfortable working in various weather conditions and remote locations;
· Physically fit: able to walk several kilometers daily and lift up to 35 lbs.
· Education in biology, botany, wildlife, or other related natural resources field;
· Strong interest in ecology/conservation;
· Silviculture certification (chainsaw safety, basic level or higher);
· Backpack electrofishing certification;
· Ability to identify native PEI plant and fish species;
· Previous experience in watershed restoration, forestry, or environmental fieldwork.

Anticipated Start Date: April 27th, 2026
Duration: 18 weeks (37.5 hours per week)
Wage: $20 per hour
· Supervise and manage a team of 3-4 field employees, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
· Lead by example, providing guidance and support to complete project activities.
· Educate and mentor team members on conservation topics, including fish habitat, hydrology, native/invasive species, field assessments, stream restoration, forestry, and land use.
· Operate a chainsaw for stream restoration and trail creation.
· Engage with the community at environmental events, representing the organization.
· Conduct environmental monitoring, including:
· Ensure timely completion of work plan activities while maintaining high standards.
· Prioritize safety, ensuring proper PPE use, first aid kit availability, and equipment maintenance in the field.
· Report to the coordinator and assist with delegated tasks as needed.
· Must be entering or returning to full-time post-secondary studies in the fall, preferably with an environmental focus such as Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Wildlife Conservation, Climate Change & Adaptation, Island Studies, or other related field.
· Strong leadership skills to guide, motivate, and support the field crew.
· Clear communication skills to ensure tasks are understood and completed effectively.
· Confident decision-making abilities, with adaptability to adjust plans as needed in the field;
· Ability to identify native PEI plant and fish species;
· First Aid certification
· Experience in fish habitat restoration on PEI.
· Knowledge of freshwater ecosystems, including fish habitat, hydrology, native and invasive species, field assessments, stream restoration, forestry, and land use.
· Silviculture certification (chainsaw safety basic level or higher).
· Backpack electrofishing certification.
